Who we are
Williams Painting & Decorating, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We're responsible for the personal details you give us.

What we collect
- When you get in touch: your name, phone number, email address, postcode and address, what work you need, and anything else you choose to send us by form, phone, email or WhatsApp, such as photos of the room.
- When we quote for or do a job: your address, contact details, details of the work, and quotes, invoices and payments.
- When you use this website: which pages you look at, roughly where you are, what device you use, and how you found us, for example from a Google search or one of our ads. You can turn this off.
Why we use it
- To reply to you and give you a quote. You've asked us to, so we need your details to do it.
- To carry out and invoice the work you've agreed with us.
- To keep business records that the law requires, for example for tax.
- To improve our website. We count visits so we can see what people look at and fix what isn't working. You can turn this off at any time.
- To see which of our Google ads work. Only if you say yes in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time.
Who else sees it
We use a few trusted services to run the business. They only use your details to provide their service to us:
- Netlify hosts this website.
- Resend delivers messages from our contact form to our inbox.
- Google provides Google Analytics, which counts visits for us, and Google Ads, which only uses cookies if you say yes.
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to message us there.
- Our accountant and HMRC, for our business and tax records.
Some of these companies are based in the USA. Where your details leave the UK, they're protected by the UK's data adequacy rules or by standard contract terms that UK law approves.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't go ahead: up to 12 months, in case you come back to us.
- Customer records, quotes and invoices: 6 years, because tax law requires it.
- Website analytics: up to 14 months.
Cookies
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. This site uses Google Analytics cookies to count visits, only so we can see how the site is used and improve it. UK law allows this without asking first, as long as we tell you and let you turn it off. To turn it off, use Change my cookie choice below and pick Don't count my visits.
Google Ads cookies are only set if you click Yes in the cookie banner. If you click No thanks, they aren't set.

If you haven't said yes to ads cookies, Google may still receive basic information without cookies, such as the fact a page was viewed, so it can estimate overall ad results. It can't use this to identify you.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the details we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your details, unless we have to keep them by law
- stop or limit how we use them
- give you your details in a format you can take elsewhere

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
